Post-tensioning rarely fails because someone chose the wrong steel. It fails on programme, and the usual reason is that the material arrived after the deck was ready for it.

We supply post-tensioning materials across the UAE: strand, anchors and wedges, ducts, grouting accessories, chairs and couplers. What distinguishes our supply from a purely commercial transaction is that we also install, stress and grout, so we are estimating quantities from slabs we have actually built rather than from a schedule handed to us. What Materials Has Premium Post Tension Supplied on Real Projects?

Our supply work is not separate from our site work, which is the useful part. The same materials we quote are the ones our own crews then install, stress and grout, on buildings in Ajman where we carried the full scope.

In Al Yasmeen, in the Eastern Sector, that covered two adjacent G+M+4+R residential buildings. In Al Jurf, in the Northern Sector, it covered a G+4+R residential building and an 11-level structure built as G+2P+8T+R with two parking floors. Four buildings, four material schedules, each estimated against that building's actual spans and reinforcement rather than a rule of thumb.

There is a practical consequence worth stating plainly: when the people ordering the material are the same people who will be threading it through ducts three weeks later, short deliveries and mismatched components stop being someone else's problem.

How Much Post-Tension Material Does a Real Building Actually Consume?

Estimating is easier with real reference points than with generic tables, so here are ours.

Two residential buildings, Al Yasmeen

Roughly 4,200 and 4,300 square metres of post-tensioned slab, both G+M+4+R. Two buildings of near-identical type, which made the second material schedule far more predictable than the first.

An 11-level structure with parking, Al Jurf

About 9,340 square metres, G+2P+8T+R. Parking floors and residential floors do not consume material at the same rate, because they do not carry the same loads or use the same column grid. A single average figure across the whole building would have been wrong for every floor in it.

A G+4+R residential building, Al Jurf

Roughly 3,570 square metres, and a more conventional consumption pattern.

220mm to 280mm slabs, 55 to 80 kg/m³

Across these four buildings, slabs ran 220mm to 280mm thick with steel ratios between 55 and 80 kg per cubic metre. That range is the honest answer to "how much steel will my slab need." Where a specific building lands inside it depends on its spans, its loading and its geometry, which is why we prefer to quote from drawings rather than from floor area alone.

Which Post-Tensioning Materials Does a Slab Actually Need?

Strand

The high-tensile steel that carries the prestress. Strand arrives with mill certification, and that documentation matters later, because a consultant reviewing the stressing records will want to know the material's actual properties rather than its catalogue ones.

Anchors and wedges

These grip the strand and transfer its full force into the concrete. Anchors, wedges and strand are a matched set. Components that are individually fine but not designed to work together will not seat reliably, and the place that gets discovered is at the jack, under load. We supply them as matched assemblies for this reason.

Ducts

The sheathing the strand runs through, which keeps it free to move during stressing and forms the void that gets grouted afterwards. Ducts have to survive being walked on, having reinforcement tied around them, and having concrete vibrated against them, all without splitting.

Couplers

Used where a tendon has to continue beyond a single pour or construction joint, which is common on larger floor plates.

Chairs and support accessories

Unglamorous and quietly decisive. Chairs hold the tendon at its designed height through the pour. A cheap chair that deflects under a boot changes the tendon profile, and a changed profile changes how the finished slab carries load.

Grouting accessories

Vents, grout caps and inlets, which determine whether grout can be pumped through the duct completely rather than trapping a void at a high point.

Take-off from drawings

We quantify from the approved shop drawings, not from floor area, because two buildings of identical size can differ substantially in tendon quantity.

Component matching

Strand, anchors and wedges are specified as compatible assemblies, with duct sizing checked against strand count per tendon.

Schedule against the pour

Material is sequenced to the specific slab and pour date. A tower is a series of deliveries, not one delivery.

Documentation prepared with delivery

Mill certificates and material data are compiled to go to the consultant, rather than being requested weeks later.

Delivery check on site

Quantities and components are verified against the schedule for that slab on arrival, when a shortfall is still recoverable.

Storage guidance

Strand and anchors are steel, and this is a coastal climate. Material stored uncovered on a deck for a fortnight before use is material that has begun corroding before it was ever stressed. We advise on protection because we are usually the ones who will install it.
